This vase is part of a series entitled Sapphic Vases, which draws inspiration from ancient illustrated Greek amphorae and vases. While numerous examples of these artifacts depict gods and heroes in homoerotic relationships, representations of female same-sex desire are virtually absent. As with many experiences excluded from the historical record, their absence has contributed to a broader cultural invisibility. Through this series, I seek to reinsert these narratives into the visual tradition and, in doing so, to contribute to the construction of a more inclusive collective imaginary.
